Just returned from a week at Lake Tahoe with Roger, Janice and Mark. It was a wonderful getaway with a beautiful view from our lakefront condo, a nice combination of activities and relaxation. Conrad and I signed up for a tour to San Francisco (3 hrs. away) and had a special day visiting Pier 39, with a trolley ride around town, and treating ourselves to shopping and a fresh seafood lunch. Oh, yes, and we also like "people watching!"
The week also included family fun and reminiscing with Roger plus outstanding meals prepared by Janice. An excellent cook, she treated us to homemade chili, chicken salad, her famous chocolate chip cookies, and on our last night there, peach custard pie. What a treat! Of course, we ate out a couple times, including the Peppermill Casino buffet which was fantastic, early dinner at Chart House, and pasta at The Red Tomato, a quaint little Italian restaurant near our condo.
One day Mark drove us across the southern end of Lake Tahoe to Emerald Bay where we all enjoyed a gourmet lunch aboard the motor boat and then viewed the historic Island where legend tells us a former owner, a millionairess, had constructed a teahouse at the very top. We spent a relaxing day on the water and survived the day with lots of sunscreen!
Conrad and I went aboard the Tahoe Queen for an afternoon excusion and we were delighted with the appearance of "Mark Twain" who filled us in on the history and lore of Tahoe. Referring to Lake Tahoe and its pristine jewel-like blue appearance, we agree with Mark Twain who wrote "I thought it must be the fairest picture the whole earth affords."
